Gwynne Dwyer is a respected journalist who writes in many publications world-wide. In his latest article examining the fracking and oil supply issues he destroys many myths. In my view he completely reinforces Sarah palin's constant refrain of "drill baby drill" as he shows that shale gas produced by fracking will, at most just replace current lost conventional gas production.
Further, he advises that even with the best production possible (which is currently being done at a loss) looking out to as far as 2035 the USA will still be an importer of oil. Thus Palin's call for the Alaskan oil fields to be opened up is valid and needed. Dwyer blames the misinformation about the oil and gas situation on "people who have something to sell".
Coming from a leftist pointof view Dwyer leaves out the people who have a barrow to push i.e. the environmentalists who stop barren wastes in Alaska from benefiting the whole nation by their unreasonable propaganda.
If the case for global warming through greenhouse gas emission is uncontrollable and caused in part by oil and gas use is correct as he seems to advise that is still no barrier to Alaskan oil being used until the measures he proposes come on stream. Whether oil comes from the Middle East or Angola it is still an import which can be substituted for by American sourced oil.
